A couple weeks back, Dave Chappelle announced that he would do a 12 show run at Chicago’s Thalia Hall. All 12 shows sold-out in under an hour. I was lucky enough to get tickets to one of the weekend shows on Sunday, Dec. 6. To start the night, Concertgoers were forced to check in their phones before entering, as no footage was allowed during the show. As previously mentioned, Chappelle partnered with Yondr tech company to help administer the no cell-phone rule show. And this rule greatly enhanced the experience. Dave had 2 opening acts before doing an hour himself. The hour that Chappelle did was phenomenal. The jokes were hitting back-to-back and it was an entirely different level of comedy, more than anything you’ve seen Dave do previously on stage. And if you weren’t at any of shows, I’m happy to tell you that you may be seeing this new material soon. Chappelle had a full camera crew in the building, filming the shows. Maybe this was apart of his rumored HBO comedy special? If things go as expected, Dave is getting ready to give us a brand new special.
