Meet Kinsey London the well traveled founder of clothing line YERABrand. Kinsey a Philadelphia native and Clark Atlanta University alum, talks with Comedy Hype about dating in her current home of Miami, resembling Lauren London, what makes her laugh, and more in this weeks installment of our ‘Women & Humor’ series.
CH: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF, LIKE WHAT WOULD PEOPLE SAY ABOUT YOU?
KL: I would describe myself as a social person. I’m kind of eclectic in my tastes.. I like different types of music, food, and culture. I’m very free spirited. I’m considered quiet or reserved initially.. But I just like to observe others first before I let my guard down.
CH: HAVE YOU EVER MET OR DATED ANYONE YOU’VE MET ON SOCIAL MEDIA. AND IF SO WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THEM?
KL: I’ve casually dated people I’ve met on social media. Nothing serious. Usually out of boredom. To be honest I love meeting new people but I don’t think I would seriously date someone from social media.
CH: YOU’VE LIVED IN ATLANTA AND NOW MIAMI WHAT ARE SOME SIMLARITIES AND DIFFERENCES IN THE GUYS?
KL: Very interesting question. All though Atlanta has a large amount of gay men I would still say Atlanta has better quality black men. Black men in Miami (my opinion) lack drive, education, and culture. The black culture is so prominent in Atlanta… Black doctors, black lawyers, black judges, black accountants… Lots of black professionals. And although Miami is beautiful and very culturally diverse, I do miss being around black professionals. In Miami I rarely date black men. And usually when I do, they aren’t originally from Miami. I think if I could merge aspects of Atlanta with the beauty and wealth of Miami it would be the perfect city.
CH: A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY YOU RESEMBLE LAUREN LONDON. DOES THAT HELP OR HURT YOU WHEN IT COMES TO DATING?
KL: First of all… That is such a compliment. Lauren London is drop dead gorgeous. So thank you. I’m not sure if it has any affect on my dating life… But if anything, I guess it would help.
CH: IN A GUY IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING FUNNY AND SILLY?
KL: Absolutely. I love charismatic, entertaining men. But there’s some guys who think they’re funny, try too hard, and just aren’t funny at all. I.e., Clowns.
CH: YOU’RE INTO FASHION AND OWN YOUR LINE, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU WOULD WEAR TO SPICE THINGS UP WITH A GUY?
KL: In or outside of closed doors? Lol. Seriously… A woman can never go wrong with a sexy pair of heels, something form fitting, a smile, and confidence.
CH: KEVIN HART AND A FEW OTHER COMEDIANS ARE FROM YOUR HOMETOWN OF PHILADELPHIA .WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST THING YOU’VE SEEN GROWING UP?
KL: Honestly… I think Kevin got his start just being the funny guy on the block. Growing up I think we all have the funny guy in the neighborhood or in school. Also I have a huge, mixed, and somewhat dysfunctional family. A lot of cousins, aunts, and uncles. I laugh a lot with them. They’re all crazy.
CH: WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
KL: Successful people inspire me. I do a lot of research on the laws of attraction, the power of our minds, etcetera. I’m inspired tremendously by the teachings of Napoleon Hill and Ralph Emerson. I’m inspired by the people who tapped into accessing their full potential by manifesting their thoughts into things. Also not to sound extra but I use myself as inspiration to constantly keep growing, learning, and become a better version of my former self.
CH: TEXT OR PHONE CALLS? AND WHY?
KL: Depends on the person. If I like you… Call me. If I don’t, I may text you back. Maybe. If I feel like it. Lol.
CH: WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
KL: Dry humor. I love sarcasm and wit. I love anything with Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill. The Office is one of my favorite shows. Also I love the show “Girls” on HBO. I think Lena Dunham is hilarious.
CH: WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP?
KL: I’ve had some pretty funny situations in the past where someone was being unfaithful and I basically had to act out of character. It wasn’t funny at the time, but looking back I laugh at some of the crazy things I used to do out of retaliation for being cheated on. I think guys a lot of times under estimate how crazy women can be when our buttons get pushed.
CH: HOW IMPORTANT IS A SENSE OF HUMOR WHEN IT COMES TO DATING OR IN A RELATIONSHIP?
KL: Very important. Laughter is good for the soul. Laughter is good for our health. I love to laugh. Intimacy is built on laughter too, when you think about it.
CH: WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT GUYS?
KL: I want men to be more clear in their intentions. Men make the mistake a lot of the time by thinking they can’t be honest with us. That women can’t handle certain truths. I think men would save themselves a lot of drama, money, headaches, etc. by being clear about what they want from women.
CH: FUNNIEST PICK UP LINE YOU EVER HEARD?
KL: Oh, Lord. I can’t even remember half of the ridiculous things I’ve heard over the years. I can say I’m always very entertained when a man starts his line with “God told me to tell you that..” because 99% of the time that line is followed with some nonsense that I know God did not say. Lol.
CH: WHATS NEXT? WHAT CAN WE LOOK OUT FOR FROM YOU?
KL: Expanding! Branding and development. My clothing line is being carried in more stores and boutiques this year. Also I’ll be doing some launch events for my S/S ’15 collection.
