In partnership with Live Nation and us here at Comedy Hype, comedian Clint Coley will be headlining 5 shows for his newly announced ‘Young Man, Old Soul’ series. To give a small introduction of himself, Clint talked with us to explain what the upcoming dates are all about.
CH: WHY NAME THE UPCOMING SERIES OF SHOWS, YOUNG MAN, OLD SOUL?
CC: I’m 27 years old but I have the mannerisms and the swag of a man who grew up in the 70’s. The way I think, move and even talk is old. Older women always want to get with me, why? Because I have an old soul that relates but young penis. So ‘Young Man, Old Soul’ it is.
CH: WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THESE PARTICULAR SHOWS?
CC: Practice (in my Allen Iverson voice). Practice is what it’s going to take to make sure that when these shows begin, I am absolutely ready. I’m going to be floating around in Chicago, San Francisco and New York working on this material and being prepared to live up to the expectations set for doing these gigs.
CH: YOU HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH A FEW COMEDY VETS INCLUDING D.L. HUGHLEY, WHAT WAS A PIECE OF ADVICE OR LESSON D.L. SHARED WITH YOU?
CC: D.L’s best advice was actually not to take advice. It’s weird. Everyone has their own path the more you listen to advice the more you tend to try to follow what someone else is doing.
CH: NOT MANY COMEDIANS GET BACKED BY LIVE NATION, HOW DID THE SERIES COME ABOUT FOR YOU?
CC: Honestly a closed mouth doesn’t get fed. I asked. They gave. Also D.L. was extremely instrumental in making this happen.
CH: LOOKING AT THE NEW UPCOMING CLASS OF COMEDIANS, WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE?
CC: I went to an audition and saw Clayton Thomas. He wasn’t auditioning he was one of the contributors. I got uber excited. Not because I thought I had an in, but because I said, “man he’s working and in a few years he’ll be the man” and it’s honestly refreshing to see that.
CH: DO YOU FEEL LIKE MORE OPPORTUNITIES LIKE THIS SERIES WILL BECOME AVAILABLE TO MORE COMEDIANS?
CC: Of course. Especially if I do this correctly. Think about it, who doesn’t want to find the next Kevin Hart? Someone just has to emerge and prove they’re worthy of it that’s all. Talent is foundation but work ethic is the key. 90% of today’s comedians in my opinion don’t have the work ethic.
CH: LATELY ALOT OF YOUNG COMEDIANS HAVE BEEN GETTING SOME SERIOUS OPPORTUNITIES, FROM MICHAEL CHE AT SNL TO JERROD CARMICHAEL’S SERIES AND COMEDY SPECIAL, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL OPPORTUNITY?
CC: I’m doing it. Everyone doesn’t always get the chance to headline Live Nation gigs. I believe if done right I can make something happen.
CH: WHAT WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE OF THESE UPCOMING PERFORMANCES COMPARED TO PAST SHOWS?
CC: I mean these 5 shows are at Live Nation venues. Everyone knows that Live Nation is the top of the food chain when it comes to concerts. You perform well and sell out these shows and in my opinion, “the sky is the limit.”
Clint’s first show for ‘Young Man, Old Soul’ kicks off in his hometown of Philadelphia December 26th at the Theatre of Living Arts, tickets are available now.
