Dave Chappelle’s Next Special Will Impact Comedy More Than Jordan Did For The NBA

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Michael Jordan[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Comedy Talk: For most comedians their special is a long awaited highlight reel of a series of well crafted jokes. A combination of material they have tested out night after night and have finally decided to share it with the world. Dave Chappelle has managed to remain in debates regarding who’s on top in comedy, despite not releasing a special in 10 years. As we shared, Chappelle is expected to follow up with a new special but what does that mean for comedy? Honestly, it means more than Michael Jordan’s career in the NBA. Here’s why.[/vc_column_text][vc_wp_text title=”#1 Michael Jordan had others to carry the league, Chappelle is one in a few “]You hear Jordan comparisons much more than you’ll ever hear who’s the next Chappelle. During the times of MJ if he decided to step away from the game, fans still had other great players to enjoy. With Chappelle absent over the last few years how many comedians have really taken comedy to new heights? Still till this day quotes from The Chappelle Show are some of the most rememberable one-liners. When Chappelle stepped away from the comedy spotlight, a part of comedy did as well. Jordan left, came back, then left again and the NBA continued being a mulit-billion dollar industry. Following Chappelle’s departure, fans were left with a few proto-types and a handful of players to feel his shoes. [/vc_wp_text][vc_wp_text title=”#2 Stand-Up comedy will return into the spotlight “]Majority of comedy fans under the age of 25 aren’t watching stand-up comedy for their laughs. Many of generation Y experience their comedy online via their cell phones. The internet and social media has edged their way in the frontline of comedy but who is to blame? The fans? The comedians? Either way Chappelle makes news even when he doesn’t try, so when his newest material comes we expect everyone to be watching. This will be a time in which many will take a break from those online videos, funny pictures and get back reacquainted with the art of stand-up.
[/vc_wp_text][vc_wp_text title=”#3 The internet will learn the difference between ‘comedian’ vs. being funny “]Now a days anyone with a small following that can get a laugh, is labeled a comedian.
This unconscious labeling has been one of the things hurting today’s working stand-up comedians. When Jordan was in the league and still till this day you know who’s in the pros vs. who plays street ball. Their are two different lanes and comedy needs a clearer understanding today. With Chappelle‘s demonstration of the craft we will all see what it means to be a comedian. [/vc_wp_text][vc_wp_text title=”#4 A new generation of comedians will be inspired “]Who does the newer generation of comedians have to look up to? Many find themselves lost trying to figure out what approach they should make while building their career in comedy. Some look now to adapt with the social media wave and others kind of sit hoping to get recognized by Hollywood. What Chappelle represents for comedy is important because he serves as a reminder that you can reach the top with just a mic in hand. No special enhancements, a man, a mic and a perspective on the things around him. Leaving no excuse for any comedian.
[/vc_wp_text][vc_wp_text title=”#5 Stand-up comedy needs a classic “]As specials continue getting pushed out in large proportions, issues of quality vs quantity arises. There was a point and time that when a comedian dropped a special it was ‘special’. Now having a special seems to be the norm which isn’t bad but the amount of classics we get in this process is limited. Every genre of art deserves their masterpieces because they become the things that innovate the art. It’s time for this comedy generation to have theirs and Chappelle’s timing could not be better. If Chappelle delivers a classic it will greatly stand-out since comedy lacks a general blueprint. As mentioned, Jordan left but the NBA kept evolving. When Chappelle stepped away it left many lost. Comedy is changing but a classic for people to discuss will help it reach it’s fullest potential[/vc_wp_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Jordan showed that man can fly.

But Chappelle can show that man can survive. Awaiting his comeback season.

  1. Saw him last night. It was authentic and a little eerie…no phone usage of any kind upon threat of ejection. It worked for me. Everyone was present…..he had some material and he rifted….I would crowd fund any project he is working on…..he didn’t have me rolling on the floor, but definitely left me wanting more….Love the article…..Love the truth….no he is not a god….but he is a force in this game…..
