Saturday Night Live might be getting a possible rival on TV soon. Veteran comedian, Eddie Griffin is being reported to be starting his own sketch comedy franchise, that is being called an urban version of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The reports have even revelaed some of the shows cast members including Spanky Hayes of MTV2’s Wild N’ Out fame, and Richard Pryor’s stand-up comedian son, Mason Pryor. Just last week Griffin, Pryor (with Sister), and Hayes were in Las Vegas together, pictured below.
We just discovered the news that comedian Eddie Griffin is launching an urban version of NBC’s Saturday NightLive! You read that right; according to our sources, we hear that Griffin will be filming a an urban version of Saturday Night Live, right now tentatively titled Friday Night Live that will feature comedians and musical acts all being broadcast from Las Vegas. The show will also feature sketches and may even have an urban version of ‘Headlines’.The cast of comedians (so far) that will be their Primetime Players are comedians Spanky Hayes, T-Rexx, Thomas Ward, Teddy Ray, and Mason Pryor. No official word on who the Executive Producers of the show will be but we hear that they are looking for women comedians and additional writers to help fill out the cast. As of this writing, Griffin is in final negotiations with Spike TV or HBO to broadcast to broadcast the show.
Spanky Hayes looked to have confirmed the news yesterday on his Instagram page with the caption, “I’m about to fill a new TV show called Friday night live from Vegas executive producer @EddieGriffincom this shit bout to be dope.”
