Eddie Murphy’s Career At SNL To Get Spotlighted On CNN’s The Eighties

For a new series on CNN fans will get a up close look at the career of Eddie Murphy when he was over at Saturday Night Live. The series entitled The Eighties will examine how Murphy helped save the show. ┬áIn the new series a collection of show’s will be discussed when it premieres on Thursdays at 9 p.m. starting March 31 on CNN.

The late-night sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” had been a ratings success since the mid-1970s, but by the early ’80s it had hit a slump. Then an innovative 19-year-old comedian named Eddie Murphy, center, joined the cast and helped turn the ratings around. Murphy fearlessly and hilariously took on socially cutting-edge subjects such as white privilege. As SNL veteran Chris Rock said during the 40th-anniversary show in 2015: “Eddie saved SNL.”
