Dave Chappelle’s ‘Half Baked’ looks to be getting a sequel, however he will not be starring in it. According to sources, the 1998 Marijuana-comedy has a part 2 in the works with help from stand-up comedian and actor Justin Hires. Hires who currently stars on CBS’s MacGyver and previously on CBS’s Rush Hour reboot; has been recruited to pen the script for Universal 1440 Entertainment. The upcoming sequel will be told through the eyes of the film’s original character Thurgood’s (played by Chappelle) son. As of now it’s not clear as to why Chappelle will not be reprising his role in the upcoming sequel but according to co-writer Neal Brennan, both he and Chappelle weren’t fans of the original.
As for Hires, he is currently in early development with Tucker Tooley Entertainment and 50 Cent for the film, ‘Homecoming’. Outside of acting, Hires has also been working on his indie-music project ‘Chapter 1: I Do This Too’, set to be released on Dec. 15.
An official date for Half Baked’s sequel has yet to be announced.
