Popular band The Roots (of The Tonight Show) has been kicking off a series of outdoor festivals called the Roots Picnic in their home base of Philadelphia. Now as a way to give New Yorkers a chance to experience their live event they are taking things to the Big Apple. A line-up of performers which includes Jerrod Carmichael, and Neal Brennan has been announced for the 2-day event in October. As a way to help get the word out; Chris Rock has lent his voice for the shows promo video (below).
D’Angelo, John Mayer, Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne and Nile Rodgers will headline. It’s official: the Roots Picnic is expanding to New York City. The long-running festival, held for the last nine years in the band’s hometown of Philadelphia, will debut its inaugural NYC edition October 1 and 2 in Manhattan’s Bryant Park.
