Owner & Founder Of ‘The Comedy Store’, Mitzi Shore Passes Away At 87

The comedy community has lost one of its pioneers. Mitzi Shore of Los Angeles’s The Comedy Store was announced to have lost her battle to an unknown neurological disorder. According to TMZ, who broke the story, Shore passed away Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. The report would be later confirmed by The Comedy Store’s official Twitter page with a public statement.

“It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that we report the passing of Mitzi Shore. Mitzi was an extraordinary woman and leader who identified, cultivated and celebrated comedy’s best performers.She helped change the face of comedy and leaves behind an indelible mark and legacy in the entertainment industry and stand-up community.  We will all miss her dearly. The Comedy Store will be closed today.” – The Comedy Store

For those who don’t know, Mitzi is also the mother of famous comedic actor, Pauly Shore. Reports would go on to share that before her passing she visited The Comedy Store on Monday with Pauly to look at the club one last time, she was 87.  Since the announcement of her passing, comedians have gone on to pay their respects, including comedy club regular Chris Rock. Rock would go on to share his condolences on his Instagram, “It’s a really sad day. Mitzi was the best .” The Comedy Store has served as the launching pad to some of the world’s most loved comedians.
