Back in February of this year, we found out that late comedian Patrice O’neal was finally getting a documentary based on his life. Patrice’s fiancee along with filmmaker Mark Farrel decided to take the independent route into making the documentary, in which they started a IndieGoGo campaign. Through IndieGoGo they requested financial backing directly from fans, friends, and others who wanted to contribute to O’neal’s documentary. On the final day of funding (May 16th), the campaign was able to successfully meet their goal of $125,000. When things were said and done, the project currently titled Better Than You ended up raising a total of $129,295. A few notable people who helped push the campaign included personality Cipha Sounds, Oneal’s friends at Sirius XM’s Opie Radio show, and Tony Rock. In all this means that pieces of O’neal’s life will soon be captured on film. An expected date on when the project will be released has not yet been revealed.

  1. As happy as I am to see it get surpassed — I am still disappointed it didn’t hit the goal quicker, or surpass it by a larger margin. Patrice was a brilliant comic, and this should have hit 200k at the least.
