When Trevor Noah takes a seat for his first season as the lead on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, he will bring in a set of new correspondents. Veteran stand-up comedian Roy Wood Jr. out of Birmingham, AL. has been named amongst the new additions. Roy’s most recent work includes his involvement on ABC’s pilot Delores & Jermaine back in March. As news broke he went on to share a message with supporters online.
I joke a lot on social media, but at the end of the day, I’m just a fat kid from one of the worst zip codes in Alabama trying to show people that no matter your origin story or mistakes you make along the way, you still have something positive to offer the world. To still have an opportunity to do this after 17 years is a straight up blessing.
Along with Roy, other comdeians announced include Ronny Chieng, and Desi Lydic. The three will join previous correspondents on the show.
With just weeks to go before the launch of “The Daily Show” under a new host, the Comedy Central program added a fresh group of regular contributors to the retooled proceedings that will be led by Trevor Noah. Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr. will join the ranks of the show’s “correspondents,” who regularly put together field pieces or commentary segments for the program. They join a roster that includes Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal.
