‘Bad Boys’ Series Not Moving Forward At NBC

Over the weekend, NBC made the decision to not pick up it’s highly covered Bad Boys series pilot with Gabriel Union & Jessica Alba, ‘LA’s Finest’. According to NBC chairman, Bobb Grennblatt, the show just didn’t fit into NBC’s current plans or direction. Now despite not finding a home at NBC, the project is currently being shopped to several networks.

One of the biggest surprises this upfront season is NBC’s pass on the Bad Boys offshoot pilot LA’s Finest, toplined by the films’ Gabrielle Union and fellow movie star Jessica Alba. “These are all tough calls,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said about the decision. during the network’s upfront call on Sunday “We did have an embarrassment of riches. And when we laid out the schedule and the calendar all season… it was a show that didn’t fit in the grand scheme of it. The high-profile project, from Sony Pictures TV., Jerry Bruckheimer Television, Primary Wave, and 2.0 Entertainment, is already being shopped to other networks… While not off the charts, LA’s Finest had garnered solid buzz and is a rare marquee drama title headlined by two two movie stars. What’s more, it’s a rare broadcast TV drama with two diverse female leads — something we don’t have right now. LA’s Finest was one of the most expensive pilots this season, with its budget said to be around $12 million. It follows the Special Agent Syd Burnett character played by Union in 2003’s Bad Boys II movie as she moves to Los Angeles and joins the LAPD.

‘Bad Boys’ Series Pilot With Gabriel Union & Jessica Alba To Be Titled ‘L.A.’s Finest’

As you should know, NBC has been hard at work to bring together a pilot based on the Bad Boys film franchise. So far the cast includes Gabriel Union, Jessica Alba, and Dwayne Martin. In a nutshell, the project is supposed to be a female version of ‘Bad Boys’ with Alba and Union as the shows leading detectives. Today, it was revealed that the untitled project will now officially go by the titled, ‘L.A.’s Finest’.

NBC’s drama pilot starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, a spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise, finally has a title: L.A.’s Finest. The project follows the Special Agent Syd Burnett character played by Union in 2003’s Bad Boys II movie as she moves to Los Angeles and joins the LAPD. Like often is the case with offshoots from popular franchises that don’t feature the lead characters, the TV series could not carry the Bad Boys moniker. The TV show represents a female take on the Bad Boys movies — which focused on two partnered Miami Police detectives, played by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith — with two female LAPD detective partners, played by Union and Alba, at the center. Likely for that reason, the spinoff had been unofficially referred to Bad Girls. That name didn’t stick, and NBC already has a drama series called Good Girls, which would have made the juxtaposition awkward. Officially, the pilot had been called Untitled Gabrielle Union project, which also became awkward after Alba was cast as the co-lead opposite Union.

Zach McGowan To Play The Villain In ‘Bad Boys’ Pilot

NBC’s Bad Boys Pilot is coming together as they have just announced actor Zach McGowan will play the series’s Villain.  McGowan’s recent casting comes weeks after it was revealed that Jessica Alba joined the cast to play Gabriel Union’s partner.

The Bad Boys TV spinoff continues to come together nicely, as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Black Sails actor Zach McGowan joins the cast. He will be costarring opposite the female leads Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, and will reportedly portray the villain who clashes violently with Union’s character in the pilot. The still-untitled NBC spinoff of the Jerry Bruckheimer action franchise will focus on Sydney “Syd” Burnett from Bad Boys II, with Union reprising her role from that film. Now no longer a DEA operative, she’s moved to Los Angeles and become part of the standard police department. Syd is partnered up with Nancy McKenna (Alba), who is just as capable as the impulsive ex-undercover agent, but is also a working mom with a more cautious approach to her work. The show looks set to create some of the same dynamics as the two Bad Boys movies, with the relationship between Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett and Will Smith’s Mike Lowrey echoed by the two actresses here.
