As we all know, 80’s classic comedy Coming To America is getting a sequel. Black-ish’s Kenya Barris has signed onboard to help pen the newest installment of the original film. Now what is unclear is who will round out the cast. Kevin Hart, and Micahel Blackson have both been suggestions that were circulating to tell the story of Coming To America 2. We recently spoke with Michael Blackson just before he hosted this year’s BET Social Awards. Blackson would tell Comedy Hype News he’s interested in being in the film and even suggested Atlanta as being the perfect place to get it done. As a native of Ghana, Blackson is definitely right when he says that he embodies the film’s spirit.

“We’ll see what happens….. what I would suggest ….. let’s go to another place that’s hot… Atlanta and deal with a new generation of crazy kids.. he’s (Eddie) brilliant, he’ll come up with something., Blackson told Comedy Hype News.

Arsenio Hall Shares That Social Media Warmed Eddie Murphy Up About The Idea Of Coming To America 2

COMING TO AMERICA, Arsenio Hall, Eddie Murphy, 1988

The talks are real. We are about to get a Coming To America 2 and Arsenio Hall just confirmed it. In a recent talk with Florida Today, Hall went on to share that Eddie originally didn’t want to do a sequel but seems to have opened up about the idea after seeing social media’s love of the film. If you can recall, a while back Jay Z and Beyonce showed love to the 1988 classic for Halloween.  Hall would also go on to joke about his return to the film. Check out his comments, below.

A: Yes, sir! For a long time there were memes and stuff on Twitter and social media, and all these rumors. It’s funny because Eddie (Murphy) never wanted to do a sequel. He wanted to just leave it where it was because it is one of his favorite movies and he said, “I don’t want to redo it or rehash old jokes and not have people like it,” so he was never going to touch it.

Recently, he saw memes and heard about Jay-Z and Beyonce doing a “Coming to America” party, and Fat Sals decorating their entire restaurant like a McDowell’s and having employees dress like employees dress the part, so he went into a meeting with Paramount to discuss it. So, everything before like six months ago was just a rumor, but he went in and they hired Kenya Barris, who is the creator of “Black-ish” and writer of “Girls Trip.”

He is writing “Coming to America 2,” and we are looking for pages in the spring, and it is going to happen. I will be in it, unless I don’t get hired and Eddie does it with Tyrese (Gibson). (laughing) Who knows, they haven’t given us contracts yet, so you might see Michael Blackson and Tyrese coming to Queens.

No, it’s definitely happening dog, there will be a “Coming to America 2.”

We’re ready.

Stamos would also express that he was definitely on interested to be apart of the reported sequel.

This Interview With Eddie Murphy And Arsenio Hall Will Remind You Why You Love ‘Coming To America’

Coming To America was one of the biggest comedy films to ever hit theaters. The film is considered some of Eddie Murphy’s best work in his respected catalogue. In the film we are introduced to several unforgettable characters, tag lines, and jokes. One thing that stood out through-out the film was the friendship between Murphy (Akeem) and Arsenio Hall (Semmi). Their friendship portrayed so well on screen that it accurately reflected the men’s real life bond off-screen. With a sequel of the film being reportedly in works we can’t help but remind ourselves why we love the film.

In an on set interview, Murphy and Hall sit down with cameras to share how the project even happened, how they met, and how similar their characters are to themselves. You can see the dynamic of Murphy’s and Hall’s friendship through the whole interview, especially at the end. We hope to see Semmi and Akemm back together again. Black-ish’s Kenya Barris is on board to write Coming To America 2’s script.
