Gary Owen may have found his tour opener as his son Austin Owen has officially performed stand-up comedy for the very first time. At a recent stop by California’s Tommy T’s Comedy Club, Owen’s 18 year-old son would decide to test out a few jokes as his dad watched on. According to Gary, this was the most nervous he’s been at a comedy show even though he wasn’t the one performing.
To start things off, Austin would greet the crowd and pretty much the rest was history. The now young comedian would tie a few jokes into being bi-racial and closed out his performance with an edgy Beyonce bit. As you will see in the footage, the crowd loved it. “My Son went onstage for the first time. I’ve been doing stand-up for 20 years & this was the most nervous I’ve ever been at a show. Then my son goes up like he’s been doing stand up for 10 years & kills!!!!,” Gary wrote while sharing footage from the night. Maybe we’ll see a father and son comedy show in the near future? Check out footage of Austin’s performance, below.
If you can recall some time ago, Gary Owen had a run-in with a heckler in Florida who clearly would take things too far. In a span of hours, a man at his show last year would turn from comedy fan to racist heckler. Now in a new interview with VladTV, Owen opens up about the incident and his thoughts on learning that the man was fired from his job. Owen would go on to express that he couldn’t feel too bad for the man’s job loss since he openly disrespected him and his wife. “People need a reality check,” Owen tells cameras.

Did they get the winner right?
Yesterday morning, Gary Owen returned to The Breakfast Club and of course they had to talk about Kevin Hart’s recent scandal. Gary had a lot to say about the matter but made sure to defend Kevin. He would go on to tell The Breakfast Club, “I feel bad for Kevin.” One question that surrounds Hart’s cheating scandal, is will Eniko Hart divorce Kevin? According to Gary when you have the type of money Kevin has, it is unlikely that someone would leave for cheating. Gary goes on to joke about his own matters, R. Kelly, and more.

Some entertainers want to buy their family different things when they reach a level of success and others want to award complete strangers with the same opportunity. The other day while in his hometown of Oxford, Ohio at Talawanda High School; Gary Owen gave 4 high school students an opportunity to further their education. Gary’s speech during the award ceremony for The Gary Owen Foundation was recently released and captures him talking about his story while helping out a student. A few tearful moments.

The Gary Owen Show chronicles the life of America’s favorite honorary Black comedian Gary Owen and his hilariously offbeat multiracial family. He broke through as the first Caucasian host of BET’s Comic View and also had star turns in the Think Like a Man films, Ride Along and Meet the Blacks. Now he’s bringing his own interracial and blended family to BET in a 30-minute unscripted series that is colorful, truthful and hysterical. Gary is constantly pushing the limits of what is politically correct when it comes to kids in small-town Ohio. Gary Owen executive produces alongside Bunim/Murray Productions’ Gil Goldschein, Jeff Jenkins and Andrea Metz. Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher and Clifford Harris (T.I.) serve as executive producers as well.
Late last year Comedy Hype stopped back by another show of Guy Torry’s Phat Tuesday in Los Angeles. Host Nika Simone had a chance to catch up with the featured comedians Melanie Camacho, Gary Owen, Gene Harding, Lil Rel, Jay Phillips, and Daphnique Springs. A few of the comedians touched on Damon Wayans retiring, Martin Lawrence, and things being to P.C..
When speaking on Damon Wayans exit from stand-up, Shepherd went on to say;
I absolutely agree with Damon it’s hard to do stand-up….. When did one little thing start offending people. I think it’s very unfortunate because losing Damon Wayans will be very detrimental to comedy in it moving forward and it evolving… I hope he changes his mind.
