This is a story we’ve covered very closely. Last year Pam Grier shared she was looking to produce a biopic on her life and expressed she wanted Jay Pharoah to play her past lover, Richard Pryor. Soon after the report went up, Jay would go on to express he wanted in. Now fast forward to now, we find out that the two parties have officially connected to move the project forward with Pharoah attached to play Pryor.

After publishing a memoir that bared her rise as a ‘70s screen siren and a private life that included love affairs with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Richard Pryor and Freddie Prinze, Pam Grier is focused on ‘Pam’, the working title of a biopic that will bring her life story to the screen. Jay Pharoah Reacts To ‘White Famous’ Being Canceled After One Season: “Thank You All”

Just as the new year ended, Jay Pharoah found out that his series, White Famous on Showtime, will not be moving forward. According to reports, the show was averaging about 1.8 Million viewers weekly. The Hollywood Reporter would be first to break the news on the series not having a season 2 on Friday. Now aa statement has not been issued regarding why the Jamie Foxx produced show will no longer move forward but Pharoah wanted all to know he has appreciated the support. In a Twitter post, Pharoah would briefly comment on the show’s cancelation by thanking his supporters:

White Famous wasn’t able to raise its profile quite enough. Showtime has canceled the comedy after just one season. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the pay cabler opted not to move forward with the Jamie Foxx-produced Jay Pharoah vehicle right before the new year — not an atypical time to drop bad news. A Showtime rep was not immediately available for comment. The series’ cancellation does not come as a huge surprise, considering fellow freshman half-hour SMILF was quickly renewed a month ago amid radio silence on White Famous‘ own future prospects. Produced by Showtime alongside Lionsgate Television and Foxx’s Foxxhole Productions, the comedy was greeted with mixed reviews and courted a weekly audience of 1.8 million viewers once all platforms were tallied. (By the cabler’s standards, that’s fair to middling.) What White Famous did give Showtime was a not-so-terribly common half-hour comedy for the network. The pay-cable outfit is better-known for such flagship hourlongs as Homeland and Shameless.

As far as what’s next for Pharoah? It doesn’t appear that the former SNL star is slowing down, he recently wrapped up his first starring role in a film. The project currently titled ‘2 Minutes Of Fame’ will feature others like Katt Williams, George Wallace, Sinbad, DC Young Fly, and Deon Cole. Stay tuned for more information about the film to be released.
