Chicago’s Vanessa Fraction has a well-respected resume in comedy. The comedian has graced some of the biggest stages, wrote for your favorite shows, and is quietly known as the ‘first black female head-writer for a late-night talk show’; thanks to her work for ‘The Monique Show’. Back in 2009, Fraction would become the victim of an unfortunate incident involving fellow comedian Joe Torry. During a comedy tour in Japan, Fraction was repeatedly hit by Torry after a roasting session that would leave her traumatized. According to both comedians, things clearly went too far.
In a now talk with Comedy Hype, Fraction has opened up about the incident to share her latest venture in self-defense classes. From our talk, we get to hear her side of the story, how Corey Holcomb stepped in, the obstacles she overcame following the attack, and what she would have done differently now that she’s been studying self-defense.
